Hand Coater

The hand-held wire-wound rod forms grooves by winding stainless steel wires to control the wet film thickness of coatings or inks. During operation, a scraper is evenly drawn across the sample, and the grooves retain a fixed amount of liquid to form a uniform coating. It is used for laboratory coating preparation, printability testing, and color difference comparison.
Selection
Select the wire diameter specification based on the viscosity of the material being tested, using a thicker wire diameter for high viscosity. Determine the rod length according to the width of the substrate, typically 2 cm wider than the sample. Consider the required coating thickness, as the wire diameter value corresponds to approximately 1/10 of the wet film thickness. Stainless steel material is suitable for most chemicals, while nylon rods are appropriate for substrates prone to scratching.
