Hegman Gauge

The Hegman gauge measures the fineness of solid particles in liquids such as paints and inks by using a graduated scraper and groove to level the sample and observe the position where particles become visible. It is used to control product uniformity and evaluate grinding effectiveness in industries such as coatings and plastics.
Selection
When selecting a Hegman grind gauge, consider the measurement range to match the sample fineness, with common ranges from 0–25 μm to 0–100 μm. Choose a stainless steel material for wear resistance and ensure the scraper edge is smooth. Check that the scale is clear and easy to read, and the operation is straightforward. Confirm the suitability of the specifications based on industry standards such as ASTM D1210.
