NPIRI Fineness Plate

The NPIRI fineness gauge is a metal plate with parallel grooves engraved on its surface, with groove depths gradually varying from 0 to 25 micrometers. During testing, the coating is drawn across the plate, and the scale corresponding to the position where particles become visible is observed to determine the maximum particle size in the coating. It is used in industries such as inks and coatings to control the grinding fineness of products, preventing issues like clumping or surface roughness.
Selection
When selecting, consider the viscosity range of the material being tested; for high viscosity, choose a wide-groove type. Determine the measurement range according to industry standards; for routine testing, select 0–25 μm, while for nanomaterials, a micro-gap version of 0–10 μm is required. Stainless steel material offers corrosion resistance, and after use, clean the groove with solvent. Compare the scale clarity and compatibility with the scraper across different brands.
