Slurry Coating Rod

The slurry coating rod features fixed-depth grooves on its cylindrical surface, which retain a specified amount of slurry when scraped on a flat substrate to form a uniform wet film. It is used in laboratories to simulate the coating process and evaluate properties such as coating coverage and leveling. It is suitable for quality control of inks, pigments, and adhesives.
Selection
Select the groove depth based on the slurry viscosity: 0–50 μm for low viscosity, 100–200 μm for high viscosity. Consider the substrate flatness—use a flexible rod for curved surfaces and a rigid stainless steel rod for flat surfaces. Match the coating width to the sample size, with a standard laboratory width of 20–30 cm. Ensure no residue remains in the grooves after cleaning.
