Paper Coating Mayer Rod

The paper coating rod is a metal round rod on the Coater that evenly spreads the coating on the paper surface through rotation. It controls the coating thickness by adjusting the gap between the rod and the paper surface, and is used in laboratories to simulate coating processes and adjust coating uniformity. It is suitable for applications such as paper surface treatment and coating formulation testing.
Selection
When selecting, consider the substrate roughness; use a larger diameter rod for rough surfaces. Choose the gap based on the coating thickness; use a small-gap rod for thin coatings. Pay attention to the corrosion resistance of the rod material: stainless steel is suitable for water-based coatings, while chrome-plated rods are resistant to solvents. The straightness of the rod affects coating uniformity and requires regular calibration.
