Oil Scraper Fineness Gauge

The fineness-of-grind gauge is used to measure the dispersion degree of particles or agglomerates in coatings and inks. The principle involves placing the sample on a grooved plate with scales, scraping it evenly with a scraper, and determining the fineness value by observing the position where particles become visible. Its purpose is to control product uniformity and it is applied in production quality inspection and formulation adjustments.
Selection
When selecting a Hegman gauge, consider matching the measurement range to the sample fineness, with common specifications such as 0–25 μm or 0–100 μm. The material should be wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, with stainless steel being more suitable. The groove accuracy should comply with standards such as ISO 1524 or ASTM D1210. The operating environment requires a flat work surface, and regular calibration is necessary to maintain accuracy.
