Reflectance GlossMeter

The gloss meter quantifies glossiness by measuring the intensity of specularly reflected light from an object's surface under a standard light source. Its principle involves a photodetector receiving the reflected beam of light from the sample surface at a fixed incident angle, converting the optical signal into an electrical signal, and displaying the result in gloss units. It serves to objectively evaluate the smoothness and flatness of surfaces and is applied in surface quality inspection across industries such as paint coatings, plastic products, and paper printing.
Selection
When selecting a reflectometer, consider the measurement angle range: use a 20° angle for high-gloss surfaces, a 60° angle for ordinary surfaces, and an 85° angle for low-gloss surfaces. Pay attention to the matching of the measurement aperture size with the sample being tested, and verify whether the instrument calibration standards comply with GS/ISO international norms. Choose between portable or benchtop models based on the usage environment, and ensure the measurement repeatability error range is within ±0.2 GU.
