Edge crush test (ECT)

Edge crush strength refers to the maximum load-bearing capacity of corrugated cardboard when pressure is applied along its edge. The principle involves applying vertical pressure to the edge of a sample until it fails, measuring its compressive performance. Its purpose is to evaluate the compressive stability of packaging materials during stacking or transportation, and it is applied in quality control and structural design validation for packaging products such as cartons and boxes.
Selection
Selecting edge crush strength should consider the actual load-bearing requirements of the packaging, transportation stacking conditions, and material type. Match testing standards such as GB/T 6546, ensure that the instrument's range covers the expected strength range, the platen size is suitable for the sample, and verify the instrument's accuracy and repeatability to meet industry testing requirements.
