Overview
LENETA VC-2.5 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into films of film thickness. With a wire diameter of 0.064mm, it can prepare wet-films of approximately 4.5µm thickness, and a Spreader width of 254mm, making it suitable for most standard size baseplates.
Features
Wide diameter range, covering 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils), can be prepared for film thickness of 4.5 µm to 150 µm (0.18 to 6mils).
The Spreader is 254mm (10 inches) wide and long enough for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
3. The total length of the rod body is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation.
4. The rod diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
5. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, non-rusting, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the Spreader Film thickness with a precision wire wound on its surface (wire diameter). As the rod rolls over the sample-coated substrate, the wound wire scrapes off excess paint, leaving a uniform, film-thickness-accurate wet-film coating.
Applications
Coating R & D, quality control, Laboratory Moulding, Printing ink testing, Adhesive Spreader
Steps
1. Apply the coating to be tested evenly on one end of the substrate.
2. Hold the hands on both ends of the Mayer Rods and place them at the starting end of the paint.
3. Maintain a steady pressure and push or pull the coating applicator forward at a constant speed to roll it over the paint area.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Make sure the coating applicator is clean, drying and free of residue before use.
• Apply uniform and stable pressure during operation to ensure consistent film Film thickness.
• Thoroughly clean with a suitable solvent immediately after use to maintain wire diameter accuracy and prevent clogging.
• Please select the appropriate wire diameter model according to the target wet film thickness.
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator, so as not to damage the wound wire and affect the accuracy.
