Overview
LENETA VC-3 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into film thickness films. Designed with a length of 305mm and a Spreader width of 254mm, it can meet the Spreader requirements of most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
1. Wide range of wire diameters: available in a variety of specifications from 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils), and the WC-3 model wire diameter is 0.075mm (3mil).
2. Accurate film Film thickness: It can be prepared with a wet film thickness of 4.5 μm to 150 μm (0.18 to 6 mils), and the corresponding film Film thickness of the WC-3 model is 5 μm (0.2 mil).
3. Reasonable size design: the width of the Spreader is 254mm (10 inches), the total length of the rod body is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm hand-held parts at both ends, which is convenient to operate.
4. Sturdy and durable structure: The rod body is 12.7mm (1/2 inch) in diameter, providing good rigidity.
5. Excellent material: made of stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, anti-rust, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with the steel plate on the magnetic card.
Principle
Measurement of paint by Mayer Rods uses wires (wires) that are tightly wound on their surface. When the rod rolls uniformly on a coated substrate, the wound wires scrape off excess paint, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness in proportion to the wire diameter (wire diameter) on the substrate.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Steps
1. Pour or apply the paint to be tested evenly on one end of the substrate.
2. Place Mayer Rods perpendicular to the edge of the substrate, ensuring that its wire surface is in contact with the substrate.
3. At a uniform and stable speed and appropriate pressure, push the coating applicator to the other end to make the coating be scraped into a film.
4. Lift the coating applicator and check whether the wet-film formed on the substrate is uniform and complete.
5. According to the test requirements, wet-film drying or follow-up performance test.
Notice
• Before use, make sure the coating applicator is clean, drying, and free of residual paint or impurities.
• Film thickness consistent film should be obtained by maintaining uniform speed and pressure when pushing the coating applicator.
• Immediately after use, clean the coating applicator with a suitable solvent to prevent the coating curing from clogging the gap between the lines.
• Please keep it properly when storing to avoid deformation or damage to the wire due to bumping.
• Different wire diameters correspond to different film Film thickness, please select the appropriate model according to the experimental requirements.
