Overview
LENETA WC-6 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into specific Film thickness films. Designed with a length of 305mm and a Spreader width of 254mm, it can meet the Spreader requirements of most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
Wide range of wire diameters: Available in a variety of specifications from 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils), including the WC-6 model wire diameter of 0.15mm (6mil).
2. Accurate film Film thickness: It can be prepared with a wet film thickness of 4.5 μm to 150 μm (0.18 to 6 mils), and the corresponding film Film thickness of the WC-6 model is 10 μm (0.4 mil).
3. Reasonable structural design: the diameter of the rod body is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity; the total length is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm hand-held parts at both ends, making it easy to operate.
4. Durable material: made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, non-rusting, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the thickness of the Spreader Film by wrapping a precision wire (wire) on its surface. As the rod rolls on a sample-coated substrate, the wound wire scrapes off excess paint, leaving a uniform wet-film with accurate Film thickness proportional to the diameter of the wire.
Applications
Paint prepatives, laboratory films, quality control, R & D testing
Standards
No specific compliance criteria were mentioned in the data.
Steps
1. Place the coating to be tested on one end of the flat substrate.
2. Place Mayer Rods perpendicular to the substrate, ensuring that the wound wire portion completely covers the painted area.
3. At a uniform speed and appropriate pressure, smoothly pull the coating applicator in the direction of the body to roll it over the paint area.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Make sure the coating applicator is clean, drying and free of residue before use.
• When operating, maintain a uniform speed and stability to avoid pauses or uneven application of force.
• Wash and dry thoroughly with a suitable solvent immediately after use to maintain accuracy and prevent corrosion.
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the desired film Film thickness.
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator, so as not to damage the wound wire and affect the Spreader accuracy.
