Overview
LENETA WC-8 Mayer Rods is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings to Film thickness, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod. This model has a 254mm Spreader width and is suitable for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
Wire diameters range from 0.064 to 1.9 mm (2.5 to 75 mil) and can be prepared for films 4.5 to 150 microns (0.18 to 6 mil) thick.
The Spreader is 254 mm (10 inches) wide and long enough for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
3. The total length of the rod body is 305 mm (12 inches), and there are 25 mm long hand-held parts at both ends, making it easy to operate.
4. The rod body is 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) in diameter, providing good rigidity.
5. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, it will not rust even when exposed to water-based paints, and it is nonmagnetic, which can be used with the steel plate on the magnetic card.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the wet film thickness with a precision wire wound on its surface. When the coating applicator is pushed on a flat substrate surface, the wound wire forms a gap through which the paint is scraped, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness determined by the wire diameter.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Place the paint sample to be tested on one end of a flat, clean substrate.
2. Place Mayer Rods (e.g. WC-8 models) perpendicular to the substrate and ensure that their wire faces are in contact with the substrate.
3. At a smooth, uniform speed and appropriate pressure, the coating applicator is pushed forward along the surface of the substrate to make the coating be scraped into a film.
4. Lift the coating applicator, check and evaluate the uniformity of the formed wet-film and Film thickness.
Notice
• Before use, make sure that the surface of the coating applicator and substrate is clean, drying and free of contamination.
• When operating, maintain a steady and uniform speed to avoid stalling or uneven pressure.
• Thoroughly clean the coating applicator with a suitable solvent immediately after use to prevent residual coating curing.
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the target wet film thickness (e.g. WC-8 corresponds to about 13 micron wet film thickness).
Store in a drying place to avoid bumping to protect the precision wire-wound structure.
