Overview
The LENETA WC-14 Mayer Rods, also known as the Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into specific Film thickness films. This model of coating applicator is made of all stainless steel, with a Spreader width of 254 mm, a rod diameter of 12.7 mm, a total length of 305 mm, and a 25mm hand grip at each end for good rigidity.
Features
Wire diameters range from 0.064 to 1.9 millimeters (2.5 to 75 mils).
2. Wide range of film film thicknesses, from 4.5 to 150 microns (0.18 to 6 mils).
The standard Spreader has a width of 254 mm (10 inches) and is suitable for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
4. The total length of the rod body is 305 mm (12 inches), and there are 25 mm handheld parts at each end, which is easy to operate.
5. The rod body is 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) in diameter, providing good rigidity.
6. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, it will not rust even when exposed to water-based paints, and it is nonmagnetic, which can be used with the steel plate on the magnetic card.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls wet film thickness through precision wires (wire diameter) wound on its surface. When the coating applicator rolls or scrapes evenly on the sample-coated substrate, the wound wires scrape off excess paint, leaving a uniform wet-film coating on the substrate. Film thickness is determined by wire diameter.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Pour or apply the coating sample to be tested on one end of the flat substrate.
2. Hold the hands on both ends of the Mayer Rods and place them perpendicular to the substrate in front of the paint.
3. At a uniform and stable speed and pressure, pull or push the coating applicator in the direction of the body to roll or scrape over the paint area.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
5. According to the test requirements, wet-film drying or subsequent treatment.
Notice
* Make sure the coating applicator is clean, drying and free of residue before use.
* Maintain uniform speed and stable pressure during operation to obtain uniform film.
* Select the appropriate bar type (wire diameter) according to the target wet film thickness.
* Thoroughly clean the coating applicator with a suitable solvent immediately after use to prevent coating curing from clogging the seam.
* Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator, so as not to damage the wound wire and affect the Spreader accuracy.
Do not use coating applicators on materials or environments beyond their intended use.
