Overview
LENETA WC-18 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into specific Film thickness films. This model is made of stainless steel and has a 254mm Spreader width, which is able to meet the Spreader requirements of most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
Wire diameters range from 0.064 to 1.9 mm (2.5 to 75 mil) for the preparation of 4.5 to 150 micron (0.18 to 6 mil) Film thickness films.
The width of the Spreader is 254 mm (10 inches), the length of the rod is 305 mm (12 inches), and there are 25 mm long hand-held parts at each end for easy operation.
3. The rod diameter is 12.7 mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
4. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, non-rusting, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the Spreader Film thickness by tightly wound wires (wires) on its surface. As the rod rolls on a sample-coated substrate, the wound wires scrape off excess paint, leaving a uniform wet-film whose Film thickness is determined by the wire diameter.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Apply the coating sample to be tested on a flat substrate (such as test cardboard or metal plate).
2. Select the appropriate Mayer Rods model (e.g. WC-18) and ensure that its wire diameter matches the target film Film thickness.
3. Place the coating applicator smoothly at the starting end of the sample, and hold the handles at both ends with both hands.
4. Push the coating applicator forward in a straight line at a uniform speed and the appropriate pressure to roll it over the entire Spreader area.
5. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a uniform wet-film on the substrate, and form a film of the specified film thickness after drying.
Notice
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the target wet film thickness before use.
• Keep the coating applicator perpendicular to the substrate surface and push at a constant speed to ensure uniform film.
• After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent the coating residue curing from affecting the accuracy.
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator to avoid damaging the wound wire and affecting the accuracy of Spreader Film thickness.
• Please keep it properly and place it in a drying environment.
