Overview
LENETA WC-36 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into film thickness. Its design length is 305 mm, and the Spreader width is 254 mm, which is sufficient to cover most standard size baseplates and cardboard. The rod body is made of all stainless steel, which has good rigidity and corrosion resistance.
Features
Wire diameters range from 0.064 to 1.9 millimeters (2.5 to 75 mils) for the preparation of 4.5 to 150 micron (0.18 to 6 mils) Film thickness films.
2. Spreader width is 254 mm (10 inches), which meets most standard baseplate size requirements.
3. The total length of the rod body is 305 mm (12 inches), and there are 25 mm hand-held parts at both ends, making it easy to operate.
4. The rod diameter is 12.7 mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
5. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion resistant, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
The Mayer Rods roll on a flat substrate through a precision wire wound on its surface (the wire diameter determines the film film thickness), and evenly scrape the paint placed in front of it into a layer of film thickness controllable wet-film. The gap between the wound wire and the substrate is the theoretical film thickness of the coating.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, coating process research, laboratory sample prepative
Standards
No specific compliance criteria were mentioned in the data.
Steps
1. Place the substrate to be Spreader flat on a stable countertop.
2. Pour an appropriate amount of paint onto one end of the substrate.
3. Hold the handles on both ends of the Mayer Rods and place the wound part in front of the paint.
4. Pull the Mayer Rods smoothly forward (or backward) at a uniform speed and appropriate pressure, so that the paint is evenly scraped into a film.
5. After completing the Spreader, clean the Mayer Rods promptly.
Notice
• Make sure Mayer Rods is clean, drying and free of residue before use.
• Maintain a uniform speed and smooth pull during operation to obtain a uniform film.
• Spreader should be used immediately after the completion of the appropriate solvent thoroughly clean the bar to prevent coating curing clogging line gap.
• Please select the appropriate bar model according to the desired wet film thickness (e.g. WC-36 corresponds to wire diameter 0.91mm, wet film thickness 68µm).
• Avoid using hard objects to scratch the surface of the bar to prevent damage to the winding and affect the Spreader accuracy.
Store in a drying environment to prevent moisture or bumping.
