Overview
LENETA WC-42 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a professional tool for preparing coatings to film thickness. The model WC-42 has a wire diameter of 1.07mm and can be prepared to wet film thickness of about 81 µm (3.2 mil). Spreader width is 254mm, which is suitable for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
Wide range of wire diameter: from 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) to provide a variety of wire diameter specifications, corresponding to the preparation of 4.5 µm to 150 µm (0.18 to 6mils) film thickness.
The size design is reasonable: the width of the Spreader is 254mm (10 inches) long enough; the total length of the rod body is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation; the diameter of the rod is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
3. Durable material: made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, even in contact with water-based paints will not rust, and is nonmagnetic, can be used with the steel plate on the magnetic card.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the Spreader Film thickness by wrapping a precision wire (wire diameter) on its surface. When used, an appropriate amount of paint is placed on one end of the substrate, and then the coating applicator is used to scrape the paint at uniform speed and pressure. The wound wire leaves a wet-film of a specific Film thickness on the substrate, thus preparing a uniform, Film thickness controllable coating.
Applications
Coating testing, inks testing, coating prepatives, laboratory research, quality control, printing industry, New material development
Steps
1. Spreader the substrate (e.g. baseplate or cardboard) flat on a stable countertop.
2. Pour a sufficient amount of paint or inks to be tested on one end of the substrate.
3. Hold the hands on both ends of the Mayer Rods and place the coating applicator perpendicular to the substrate and close to the front end of the paint.
4. Scrape the coating applicator smoothly over the entire paint area at a uniform speed and at the appropriate pressure until it covers the entire width of the Spreader.
5. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film coating with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Before use, make sure that the coating applicator and substrate surface are clean, drying and free of contamination.
• Uniform speed and uniform pressure should be maintained during operation to obtain a film with consistent film thickness.
• According to the required wet film thickness, select the coating applicator of the corresponding wire diameter model.
• After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent coating curing residues.
Store in a drying environment to avoid bumping to protect the wrapped wire.
• This product is a precision tool, please do not use it for non-Spreader purposes or apply excessive pressure to avoid damage.
