Overview
LENETA WC-44 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into films of a specific film thickness. The model WC-44 has a wire diameter of 1.12mm (44mil) and can be used for preparing films of approximately 85µm (3.3 mil) thick. Spreader width is 254mm (10 inches), which is suitable for most standard size baseplates.
Features
Wide range of wire diameter: from 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) to provide a variety of specifications, corresponding to different film Film thickness requirements.
2. Spreader width is suitable: 254mm (10 inches) Spreader width is enough to meet most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
3. Reasonable structural design: the total length of the rod body is 305mm (12 inches), with 25mm hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation; the rod diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
4. Durable material: made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, non-rusting, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods work through wires (wires) that are tightly wound on their surface. When the operator places an appropriate amount of paint on the substrate and pushes the coating applicator at a certain pressure and speed, the wound wires scrape through the paint, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness in relation to the wire diameter (i.e. wire diameter). The wet film thickness is approximately a specific proportion of the wire diameter (e.g., the WC-44 model has a wire diameter of 1.12mm, corresponding to a wet film thickness of approximately 85µm).
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, paper surface preparation, laboratory sample prepative
Standards
No specific compliance criteria were mentioned in the data.
Steps
Select the appropriate diameter Spreader rod to match the target wet film thickness (e.g. about 85 µm for WC-44).
2. Spreader the substrate (such as baseplate, cardboard) flat.
3. Apply a sufficient amount of paint to one end of the substrate.
4. The hand-held part at both ends of the coating applicator pushes the coating applicator from the coating end to the other end at a stable and uniform pressure and speed.
5. Complete a single Spreader to obtain a wet-film with uniform Film thickness.
Notice
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the required film Film thickness before use.
• Ensure that the surface of the substrate is flat and clean to ensure the uniformity of the film.
• When operating, keep the coating applicator perpendicular to the surface of the substrate and push at constant speed and pressure to avoid pause or tilt.
• After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent the coating residue from curing and affect the accuracy of the next use.
• This product is made of all stainless steel, but it still needs to be properly stored to avoid wire-wound deformation caused by violent collision.
• Please note that the actual film formation Film thickness is affected by various factors such as coating viscosity, Solid content, substrate characteristics and operation methods, bar Nominal Film thickness is the reference value.
