Overview
LENETA WC-48 Mayer Rods is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into film thickness films, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator, Mayer Rod or wrap bar. Designed for standard size baseplates and cardboard, it is capable of preparing precise, uniform wet-film.
Features
The wire diameter range covers 0.064 to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils), corresponding to the preparatory film Film thickness of 4.5 to 150μm (0.18 to 6mils).
2. The width of the Spreader is 254mm (10 inches), the total length of the rod is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation.
3. The rod body diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity to ensure the stability of the Spreader process.
4. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion resistant, even with water-based paints will not rust, and is nonmagnetic, can be used with the steel plate on the magnetic card.
Principle
Measurement of paint by Mayer Rods uses wires (wires) that are tightly wound on their surface. As the rod rolls over the surface of the substrate to be coated, the wound wires scrape off excess paint, leaving a uniform and accurate wet-film coating on the substrate that corresponds to the wire diameter (wire diameter).
Applications
Coatings R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control and comparison
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Pour an appropriate amount of the paint to be tested on one end of the substrate.
2. Place Mayer Rods (e.g. WC-48) perpendicular to the substrate in front of the paint.
3. With a uniform and stable force and speed, pull the coating applicator in the direction of the body to roll it over the paint area.
4. After the Spreader is completed, place the substrate coated with wet-film horizontally for subsequent observation or testing.
Notice
* When operating, ensure that the coating applicator is in full contact with the surface of the substrate and pulled at a constant speed to obtain a uniform film.
* After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent the coating residue from curing and affect the accuracy of the next use.
* Please select the appropriate bar type (wire diameter) according to the target wet film thickness.
* Avoid drops or bumps to prevent wire deformation from affecting Spreader accuracy.
