Overview
LENETA WC-50 Mayer Rods is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings to Film thickness, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator, Mayer Rod or wrap bar. With a Spreader width of 254mm, it is suitable for most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
The wire diameter range covers 0.064 to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) and can be prepared for films of 4.5 to 150μm (0.18 to 6mils) Film thickness.
2. The Spreader width is 254mm (10 inches), the rod length is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation.
3. The rod diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
4. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, non-rusting, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the Spreader Film thickness with a precision wire wound on its surface. As the rod rolls on a sample-coated substrate, the wound wire scrapes off excess paint, leaving a uniform wet-film with accurate Film thickness proportional to the wire diameter.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, paper surface preparation, laboratory sample prepative
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Apply the coating or sample to be tested evenly on one end of the substrate.
2. Hold the hands on both ends of the Mayer Rods and place them perpendicular to the long side of the substrate.
3. At a uniform speed and appropriate pressure, the coating applicator is smoothly pulled in the direction of the operator to roll over the coating area.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Make sure the coating applicator is clean, drying and free of residue before use.
• The operation should be maintained at a uniform speed and smooth, to avoid pause or uneven force, to ensure that the film Film thickness is consistent.
• After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent immediately to prevent the coating curing from clogging the gap between the lines.
• Please select the appropriate model (wire diameter) according to the target wet film thickness.
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator to prevent damage to the wound wire affecting the accuracy.
• This product is a precision tool, please keep it safe.
