Overview
LENETA WC-52 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into films of film thickness. With a 254mm Spreader width, it is suitable for most standard size baseplates and cardboard. It is made of all stainless steel and has good rigidity and corrosion resistance.
Features
The wire diameter range covers 0.064 to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) and can be prepared for films of 4.5 to 150μm (0.18 to 6mils) Film thickness.
2. The Spreader width is 254mm (10 inches), the rod length is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation.
3. The rod diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
4. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion resistant, suitable for water-based paints, and nonmagnetic design, can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the wet film thickness by wrapping a specific diameter wire on its surface. When the operator pours the paint on the substrate and scrapes it with a coating applicator at constant speed and pressure, the wound wire scrapes off the excess paint, leaving a uniform wet-film coating with accurate film thickness on the substrate.
Applications
Coating R & D, inks testing, Adhesive Spreaders, laboratory sample prepatives, quality control
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Pour the paint sample to be tested onto one end of the substrate.
2. Place the WC-52 Mayer Rods perpendicular to the substrate, ensuring that the wound wire portion completely covers the paint area.
3. At a uniform, stable speed and appropriate pressure, scrape the coating applicator along the surface of the substrate to the other end.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film coating with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Make sure the coating applicator and substrate surface are clean and drying before use.
• A uniform speed and constant pressure should be maintained during operation to obtain a film of uniform thickness.
• After use, the coating applicator should be cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent the coating residue from curing.
• Please select the appropriate model according to the desired wet film thickness (e.g. WC-52 corresponds to a wet film thickness of about 100 µm).
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator to prevent damage to the wound wire affecting Spreader accuracy.
