Overview
LENETA WC-60 Mayer Rods, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator or Mayer Rod, is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings into films of film thickness. The model WC-60 has a wire diameter of 0.15mm (6mil) and is capable of preparing films of approximately 10µm (0.4mil) thick with a Spreader width of 254mm (10 inches).
Features
Wide range of wire diameter: from 0.064mm to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) to provide a variety of wire diameter specifications, corresponding to different film Film thickness requirements.
2. Controllable film Film thickness: The preparatory wet film thickness ranges from 4.5 µm to 150 µm (0.18 to 6 mils).
3. Applicable width: Spreader width is 254mm (10 inches), enough to meet most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
4. Structural design: The total length of the rod body is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation; the diameter of the rod is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
5. Durable material: Made of all stainless steel, it will not rust or corrode even when exposed to water-based paints, and it is nonmagnetic and can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods roll or scrape on the substrate by means of wires (wires) that are tightly wound on its surface. The height of the wires determines the wet film thickness of the paint left on the substrate. When the coating applicator containing the paint moves over a flat substrate surface at a uniform speed and pressure, the excess paint is scraped off by the wires, resulting in a layer of wet-film with uniform film thickness and determined by the wire diameter (wire diameter).
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, coating process research, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
Select a coating applicator of the appropriate wire diameter to match the target wet film thickness (e.g. WC-60 corresponds to approximately 10 µm).
2. Pour or drop an appropriate amount of paint on one end of the substrate to be Spreader.
3. Hand-held parts at both ends of the coating applicator, at a stable and uniform speed and appropriate pressure, pull the coating applicator from the starting end of the coating to the other end.
4. Make sure the Spreader process is done in one go, avoiding pauses in the middle to get an even film.
5. After the Spreader is completed, clean the coating applicator in time.
Notice
• Please select the appropriate model (wire diameter) according to the required wet film thickness before use.
• Maintain uniform drawing speed and pressure during operation to ensure consistent film Film thickness.
• Spreader surface should be flat and clean to ensure film mass.
• Thoroughly clean the coating applicator with a suitable solvent immediately after use to prevent the coating from drying out and affecting the accuracy and next use.
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator, so as not to damage the wound wire and affect the Spreader accuracy.
• This product is made of all stainless steel and is corrosion-resistant, but it still needs to be properly kept.
