Overview
LENETA WC-70 Mayer Rods is a laboratory tool for preparing coatings to film thickness, also known as Wire-wound drawdown bar coating applicator, Mayer Rod or wrap bar. Designed with a length of 305mm and a Spreader width of 254mm, it is capable of meeting the Spreader requirements of most standard size baseplates and cardboard.
Features
The wire diameter range covers 0.064 to 1.9mm (2.5 to 75mils) and can be prepared for films of 4.5 to 150μm (0.18 to 6mils) Film thickness.
2. The Spreader width is 254mm (10 inches), the rod length is 305mm (12 inches), and there are 25mm long hand-held parts at both ends for easy operation.
3. The rod diameter is 12.7mm (1/2 inch), providing good rigidity.
4. Made of all stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, it will not rust even when exposed to water-based paints, and it is a nonmagnetic design that can be used with steel plates on magnetic cards.
Principle
Mayer Rods controls the Spreader Film thickness through a precision wire (wire) wound on its surface. When the coating applicator is pushed on the substrate, the wound wire scrapes off excess paint, leaving a uniform, film thickness-controlled wet-film coating proportional to the wire diameter.
Applications
Coating R & D and testing, inks performance evaluation, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory sample prepative, quality control
Steps
1. Place the coating sample to be tested on one end of the substrate.
2. Place Mayer Rods perpendicular to the substrate and ensure that its wire surface is in contact with the paint.
3. Push the coating applicator along the substrate to the other end at a smooth, uniform speed and appropriate pressure.
4. Lift the coating applicator, leaving a wet-film coating with uniform film thickness on the substrate.
Notice
• Before use, make sure that the surface of the coating applicator and substrate is clean, drying and free of impurities.
• Keep the speed and pressure constant when pushing the coating applicator to ensure uniform film Film thickness.
• After use, the coating applicator should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent in time to prevent coating curing residues.
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the target wet film thickness (e.g. WC-70 corresponds to wire diameter 1.78mm, wet film thickness is about 138 µm).
• Avoid bumping or bending the coating applicator to prevent damage to the wound wire affecting Spreader accuracy.
• This product is a precision tool, please keep it safe and avoid using it for non-Spreader purposes.
