Overview
The LENETA ASM-1 Sag resistance tester is a professional test device designed according to the ASTM D4400 standard to evaluate the Sag resistance performance of paints coatings. The instrument is designed with a descending blade with a continuous high clearance. By measuring the relationship between the notch clearance and the degree of sinkage, a quantified anti-sagging index is obtained. The higher the index indicates the better the coating Sag resistance performance. The instrument is developed based on published official research reports and is an important equipment for related testing in paints laboratories in the United States and around the world.
Features
1. Designed according to the ASTM D4400 standard, the test method is authoritative and reliable.
2. Using a descending blade structure with a series of continuous high gaps, the quantitative anti-sagging index can be directly obtained.
3. The test results are objective, the higher the anti-sagging index, the better the sagging performance of the coating.
4. The instrument development process is supported by published official research reports and is highly versatile.
5. It is an important equipment for Sag resistance testing in paints laboratories in the United States and around the world.
Principle
The instrument works based on the test method specified in the ASTM D4400 standard. At its core is a descending blade with a series of continuous high gaps. Spreader the coating onto the test plate and then use the instrument to scrape the coatings to form different Film thicknesses. By observing and measuring the sinkage of the coating due to gravity on the vertical plane and correlating it with the notch gap on the blade, a numerical value characterizing the sagging resistance is calculated, the anti-sagging index.
Applications
Paint laboratory, paint development and quality control
Standards
ASTM D4400, LIANBANG Test Method Standard 141 Method 4494
Steps
1. Prepare samples of solvent architectural coatings to be tested.
2. Make sure the tester is clean and prepare the test board according to the standard requirements.
3. Place an appropriate amount of paint at the beginning of the test plate.
4. Using the falling blade of the ASM-1 Sag resistance tester, scrape the paint at a constant speed and angle to form a series of wet-films of different Film thicknesses on the test plate (film thicknesses typically range from 78 to 200 µm).
5. Immediately place the scraped test board vertically.
6. After the coating drying, observe the coating surface and determine the position of the coating thickness where the sag phenomenon does not occur.
7. Read or calculate the corresponding anti-sagging index according to the notch gap mark on the instrument blade.
Notice
• This instrument is mainly suitable for Sag resistance performance testing of solvent architectural coatings.
• Before testing, ensure that the instrument blades are clean and free of residual paint, so as not to affect the scraping effect and test accuracy.
• The scraping operation needs to keep the speed uniform and the angle constant to ensure the formation of an accurate film thickness layer.
• After the test board is placed vertically, vibration should be avoided to ensure that the sag phenomenon is caused by the natural action of gravity.
• When reading the results, it is necessary to accurately determine the critical point of "just not sagging" to ensure the accuracy of the anti-sagging index.
The use of the instrument and the determination of results should be strictly in accordance with relevant standards such as ASTM D4400.
