Overview
The LENETA ASM-4 Sag resistance tester is a test device designed according to the ASTM D4400 standard to evaluate the Sag resistance performance of waterborne architectural coatings. The instrument uses a descending blade design with a series of continuous high gaps. The relationship between the notch gap and the degree of sinkage is used to derive a value called the anti-sagging index. The higher the index, the better the sagging performance of the coating. The device was developed based on published reports (e.g. JCT October 1962, January 1964) and is used as standard equipment for ASTM D4400 and LIANBANG Test Method 4494 (Method 141). It is an important tool in paints laboratories around the world.

Principle
The instrument is tested by a descending blade with a series of continuous high gaps. Spreader the coating, the blade drops, and the sag degree of the coating is correlated with the notch gap on the blade to calculate an anti-sagging index. The index directly reflects the ability of the coating to resist the sag on the vertical surface. The higher the index value, the better the Sag resistance performance.

Steps
1. Prepare samples of aqueous architectural coatings to be tested.
2. Spreader the coating to the specified film thickness (in the range of 100 to 600 µm) according to the test requirements.
3. Spreader the test board vertically.
4. Use the falling blade of the ASM-4 Sag resistance tester for testing.
5. Observe and record the corresponding relationship between coating sag and blade notch clearance.
6. Calculate the anti-sagging index according to the standard method.

Stir the paint sample evenly and control the temperature and humidity of the environment before testing.
Operate in strict accordance with ASTM D4400 standards.
After use, the instrument should be cleaned in time to keep the blade gap clean and free of blockage.
