When placed on a smooth metal surface (zero plate), calibrated Film thickness measurement is possible. Non-calibrated plastic specimens (foils) can be used for quick operation inspection and practice measurement of instruments. They can be placed on uncoated metal substrates, but are not suitable for use with magnetic pull-out thickness gauges.
