Overview
The RDS 24 #3/8 "Open Applicator rod is a wire-wound drawdown bar with a special open process, suitable for high viscosity Coating Spreader experiments. Its preparatory wet film thickness is 54.9μm, the effective application width is 30cm, and the rod body is made of stainless steel, which is sturdy and durable.

Principle
The Applicator rod forms specific wide and shallow grooves on the surface of the rod body through spaced surrounding wires. When Spreader, the Coating flows in the groove. When the bar scrapes the substrate, the excess Coating is scraped off, and the Coating of Basis Weight in the groove is transferred to the substrate to form a wet-film of a set thickness. Its open-ended design specifically optimizes the flowability and transfer effect of high-viscosity Coatings.
Applications
Spreader test for high viscosity Coatings in scenes requiring special film experiments
Steps
1. Coating to be tested is placed at one end of the substrate.
2. Applicator rod smoothly placed behind the Coating.
3. At a uniform speed and appropriate pressure, scrape the Applicator rod to the other end.
4. Lift the Applicator rod, complete the Spreader, and obtain the wet-film of the set thickness.
Notice
• Make sure the substrate surface is flat and clean before Spreader.
• During operation, keep the bar in contact with the substrate smoothly and the scraping speed is uniform.
• The bar should be cleaned in time after use to prevent the Coating from drying up and blocking the groove.
• The durability of the open bar may be lower than that of the double winding rod, please pay attention to the use and maintenance.
• Please select the appropriate bar type according to the Coating viscosity.
