Overview
The RDS 18 #3/8 "open applicator rod is a wire-wound drawdown bar with a special open process, suitable for coatings with a preparatory wet film thickness of 41.1 μm. Its effective application width is 30cm and the wire diameter is 0.46mm. As an American RDS brand product with more than 80 years of history, this rod is specially designed to handle higher viscosity coatings to reduce clogging and eliminate stitches, ensuring uniform Spreader effect.
Features
1. Special open wire-wound process, suitable for high viscosity Coating, reduce clogging.
2. Wide and shallow groove design helps heavy coatings flow more smoothly.
3. Smaller wire diameters produce less discontinuity, resulting in more complete coating penetration.
4. More cost-effective than double wire-wound bar.
5. Effective application width of 300mm, improve Spreader efficiency.
6. Made of stainless steel, strong and durable.
Principle
The open-ended Applicator rod forms a series of wide and shallow grooves on the rod body through spaced surrounding wires. When Spreader, the Coating fills in these grooves. When the bar is pulled, the excess Coating is scraped off, and the Coating of Basis Weight in the groove is transferred to the substrate to form a wet-film of a specific thickness. Its open-ended design is particularly conducive to the flow of high-viscosity Coatings, reducing the residue and blockage of Coatings in the bar grooves.
Applications
It is suitable for special film experiment scenarios, Coating R & D, inks testing, Adhesive Spreader, laboratory precision film and other sub-industries that need to deal with high viscosity materials.
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Fix the substrate to be Spreader flat.
2. Take an appropriate amount of Coating and place it at the starting end of the substrate Spreader.
3. Place the grooved side of the Open Applicator rod facing the Coating.
4. Pull the bar smoothly across the Coating area at a uniform speed and appropriate pressure.
5. After finishing the Spreader, clean the bar in time.
Notice
• Make sure the substrate surface is clean and flat before Spreader.
• When using, it should be pulled at a constant speed to obtain a uniform film thickness.
• The durability of this open bar may be lower than that of the double wire-wound bar, please pay attention to protection when using it.
• After use, it should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable solvent immediately to prevent the Coating from drying up and blocking the groove.
• Please select the appropriate bar model according to the Coating viscosity to achieve the best Spreader effect.
