Overview
The RDS 8 #3/8 "open applicator rod is a wire-wound drawdown bar with a special open process, designed for coatings with a preparation wet film thickness of 18.3μm. The coating rod has an effective application width of 30cm and is suitable for handling higher viscosity Coatings. It can reduce blockage and eliminate stitches. It is a professional Spreader tool under the American RDS brand with a history of more than 80 years.

Principle
The open bar forms wide and shallow grooves through spaced, encircling wires. This design allows higher viscosity coatings to flow better in it, reducing clogging problems caused by the stickiness of the coatings. At the same time, the smaller wire diameter creates less discontinuity in the coatings flow, which helps the coatings to more fully penetrate and spread out, thus preparing a uniform wet-film.
Applications
Special film experiment scenarios, different industry segments
Steps
1. Place the Coating on one end of the substrate to be Spreader.
2. Place the Open Applicator rod behind the Coating to ensure contact with the substrate.
3. Pull Applicator rod to the other end at a uniform speed and appropriate pressure.
4. Applicator rod grooves will take away the Basis Weight Coating and form a set thickness wet-film on the substrate.
Notice
• The open bar may not be as durable as the double winding rod, and maintenance should be paid attention to when using it.
• Please select the appropriate coating rod model according to the viscosity characteristics of the coating.
• After use, it should be cleaned in time to prevent the Coating from drying up and blocking the groove.
• Ensure operation within the effective application width (300mm).
