Principle

Based on the Stokes viscosity measurement principle, the Zahn Cup calculates kinematic viscosity by measuring the time it takes for a specific volume of liquid to flow out of a standard pore size. Originally designed for rapid viscosity assessment of products that comply with Newtonian mechanical properties, modern viscosity cups are manufactured to international standards to ensure dimensional tolerance accuracy and data recording standardization.

Steps

1. Adjust the temperature of the liquid to be tested to 25 +/- 0.2 degrees Celsius 2. Select the Zahn Cup with the appropriate pore size according to the estimated viscosity 3. Fully immerse the Zahn Cup in the liquid to be tested 4. Measurement and recording of liquid temperature in the cup 5. Lift the Zahn Cup vertically and start timing when the cup leaves the liquid surface 6. Stop timing when the beam stops flowing for the first time

• Temperature fluctuations during testing must not exceed +/- 0.2 degrees Celsius • The height of the cup should not be higher than 15 cm above the liquid level • Use soft cloth to clean and avoid abrasion tools • Clean the outflow hole in time after each use • Safety precautions need to be established before testing • Avoid scratching the inner surface of the outflow hole
