Overview
Cross-cut Adhesion Tester (model: CHKITISO6X2) is used to measure the coating's ability to resist separation from the substrate by cutting a lattice pattern on the coating according to ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards. This kit contains all the tools and accessories needed to perform cross-cut testing and is ergonomically designed to provide a comfortable all-day use experience.
Features
1. Includes all the tools and accessories required for cross-cut testing in accordance with ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards.
2. The ergonomically designed tool handle has a non-slip grip for comfortable all-day use.
3. The swirling/spinning cutting head ensures proper positioning and uniform cutting surface pressure.
4. Easy to replace, hardened steel blade with 4 cutting edges for longer testing.
Suitable for coating thicknesses up to 250 microns (10 mils), depending on blade and standard.
6. Available in a variety of 4-in-1 cutting blades of different standards, coating thicknesses and substrates, the tool is compatible with all DeFelsko cutting blades.
7. Provide 3x or 10x magnifying glass according to the standard.
8. Comes with a brush to remove peeling debris from the coating.
9. Optional gluing tape compliant with ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359.
10. Durable hard cases keep the contents safe.
Principle
The instrument cuts a regular lattice pattern on the surface of the coating by using a cutting blade of a specific specification. Subsequently, the specified tape is pasted and torn off the cutting area according to the standard, and the adhesion level is determined by evaluating the degree of peeling of the coating from the substrate.
Applications
Coating adhesion test
Standards
ISO 2409/16276-2、ASTM D3359、AS 3894.9/1580.408.4、JIS K 5600-5-6
Steps
1. According to the film thickness and substrate type of the coating to be tested, refer to the table in the product data to select the appropriate test blade (for CHKITISO6X2 model, suitable for coating thickness 61~ 120μm, in line with ISO 2409 standard).
2. Install the blade onto the ergonomically designed tester handle.
3. Use a swirling/spinning cutting head to cut a lattice pattern at uniform pressure on the coating surface.
4. Use the provided brush to remove coating debris from cutting.
5. According to the selected standard (e.g. ISO 2409), apply the appropriate adhesive tape to the grid area and quickly tear it off.
6. Use magnifying glass (3 times or 10 times) to observe the coating peeling.
7. Evaluate and record the adhesion grade of the coating against the standard rating chart.
Notice
* Before testing, choose the correct blade according to the coating thickness, substrate type (e.g. soft substrate), and the standard followed (ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359).
Make sure to apply even pressure when cutting to obtain accurate test results.
* The blade is made of hardened steel and has multiple cutting edges, which can be replaced and used. Please pay attention to safety when operating.
After the test is completed, please clean the instrument and all accessories and place them in the hard case provided for proper storage.
