Overview
Cross-cut Adhesion Tester (model: CHKITISO6X3) is used to measure the coating's ability to resist separation from the substrate by cutting a lattice pattern on the coating according to ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards. The kit contains all the tools and accessories needed to perform the test and is ergonomically designed to provide a comfortable all-day use experience.
Features
1. Includes all tools and accessories required for cross-cut testing in accordance with ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359.
2. Ergonomically designed tool grips with non-slip grips for comfortable all-day use.
3. The swirling/spinning cutting head ensures proper positioning and uniform cutting surface pressure.
4. Easy to replace, hardened steel blade with 4 cutting edges for longer testing.
Suitable for coating thicknesses up to 250 microns (depending on blade and standard).
6. The tool is compatible with all DeFelsko cutting blades and is available in a variety of 4-in-1 cutting blades of different standards.
7. Provide 3x or 10x magnifying glass according to the standard.
8. Comes with a brush to remove peeling debris from the coating.
9. Optional gluing tape compliant with ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359.
10. Durable hard cases keep the contents safe.
Principle
The instrument evaluates the adhesion between the coating and the substrate according to the condition of the coating peeling by cutting a lattice pattern of specific spacing on the surface of the coating to be tested, then pasting and tearing it off using standard tape. The cutting process ensures uniform pressure and accurate positioning through a swirl/spin cutting head and hardened steel blade.
Applications
Coating adhesion test
Standards
ISO 2409/16276-2、ASTM D3359、AS 3894.9/1580.408.4、JIS K 5600-5-6
Steps
Select the appropriate test blade according to the coating thickness and standard (e.g. ISO 2409) (e.g., for 121~ 250 μm film thickness, use 6-tooth blades with a 2mm pitch).
2. Install the blade onto the ergonomically designed tester handle.
3. Use a swirling/spinning cutting head to apply uniform pressure on the coating surface to cut out a standard lattice pattern.
4. Use the provided brush to remove coating debris from cutting.
Apply the corresponding gluing tape according to the selected standard (ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359) and compact it.
6. Quickly tear off the tape in the prescribed manner.
7. Use the provided magnifying glass (3 times or 10 times) to observe the coating peeling in the grid area.
8. Evaluate the adhesion grade according to the grade map specified in the standard.
Notice
* Please select the correct blade specification based on the film thickness of the coating to be tested and the standard followed (ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359).
* For soft substrates (e.g. wood and plaster), blade selection may need to be adjusted within a specific coating thickness range (e.g. 2mm/6 tooth blades are recommended for 0 to 120μm).
Make sure to apply even pressure when cutting to obtain accurate test results.
* The blade is made of hardened steel and has multiple cutting edges, which can be replaced to extend the service life. Please pay attention to safety when using it.
After the test is completed, please store all tools and accessories in the hard case provided.
