Overview
Cross-cut Adhesion Tester (model: CHKITASTM11X1) is used to measure the coating's ability to resist separation from the substrate by cutting a lattice pattern on the coating according to ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards. This kit contains all the tools and accessories needed to perform cross-cut testing and is ergonomically designed to provide a comfortable all-day use experience.
Features
1. Includes all the tools and accessories required for cross-cut testing in accordance with ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards.
2. Ergonomically designed tool grips with non-slip grips for comfortable all-day use.
3. The swirling/spinning cutting head ensures proper positioning and uniform cutting surface pressure.
4. Easy to replace, hardened steel blade with 4 cutting edges for longer testing.
Suitable for coating thicknesses up to 250 microns (10 mils), depending on blade and standard.
6. Available in a variety of 4-in-1 cutting blades of different standards, coating thicknesses and substrates, the tool is compatible with all DeFelsko cutting blades.
7. Provide 3x or 10x magnifying glass according to the standard.
8. Comes with a brush to remove peeling debris from the coating.
9. Optional gluing tape compliant with ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359.
10. Durable hard cases keep the contents safe.
Principle
The instrument cuts a standard lattice pattern on the surface of the coating by using a cutting blade of a specific specification. Then use standard tape to paste and tear off the cutting area, and determine the adhesion level of the coating to the substrate by evaluating the degree of peeling of the coating from the substrate.
Applications
Coating adhesion test, coating mass assessment, coating process control
Standards
ISO 2409/16276-2、ASTM D3359、AS 3894.9/1580.408.4、JIS K 5600-5-6
Steps
Film thickness of the coating to be tested and the standard on which it is based (e.g. ASTM D3359), select the appropriate cutting blade (e.g., for 0 to 50 μm film thickness, use 11-tooth blades with a 1mm pitch).
2. Install the blade onto the ergonomically designed tester handle.
3. Use a swirling/spinning cutting head to cut a standard lattice pattern on the coating surface with uniform pressure.
4. Use the provided brush to remove coating debris from cutting.
Apply the specified adhesive tape (e.g., ASTM D3359 compliant tape) firmly to the grid area as required by the standard.
6. Quickly remove the tape in the prescribed manner.
7. Use the provided magnifying glass (3 times or 10 times) to observe the coating peeling in the grid area.
8. Assess and record adhesion grade against standard map.
Notice
* Before testing, select the correct blade specification according to the coating thickness and the standard on which it is based (ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359).
* This model (CHKITASTM11X1) blade specifications are: 11 teeth, 1mm pitch, suitable for ASTM D3359 standard 0~ 50μm coating thickness.
* For soft substrates (e.g. wood, plaster), blade selection may need to be adjusted within a specific coating thickness range, please refer to the table in the product literature.
Make sure to apply even pressure when cutting to obtain accurate test results.
* The blade is made of hardened steel and has multiple cutting edges, which can be replaced and used. Please pay attention to safety when operating.
After the test is completed, please store all tools and accessories in the hard case provided.
