Overview
The cross-cut Adhesion Tester is used to measure the coating's ability to resist separation from the substrate by cutting a lattice pattern on the coating according to ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards. The kit contains all the tools and accessories needed to perform the test, is ergonomically designed, provides a non-slip grip and swirl/spin cutting head, ensuring comfortable operation, accurate positioning and even pressure.
Features
1. Includes all the tools and accessories required for testing to ISO 2409 and ASTM D3359 standards.
2. Ergonomically designed tool handle with non-slip grip, suitable for all-day comfortable use.
3. The swirling/spinning cutting head ensures correct positioning and uniform cutting surface pressure.
4. Easy to replace, hardened steel blade with 4 cutting edges for extended test life.
Suitable for coating thicknesses up to 250 microns (depending on blade and standard).
6. Available in a variety of 4-in-1 cutting blades for different standards, coating thicknesses and substrates, compatible with all DeFelsko cutting blades.
7. Provide 3x or 10x magnifying glass according to the standard.
8. Included brush for removing coating peeling debris.
9. Optional gluing tape compliant with ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359 standards.
10. Equipped with a durable hard case to ensure the safety of the contents.
Principle
The instrument evaluates the adhesion strength of the coating to the substrate when subjected to mechanical cutting forces by cutting a regular cross-lattice pattern on the surface of the coating to be tested. After cutting with a specific blade according to a standard (e.g. ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359), the adhesion grade of the coating is assessed by observing the coating flaking or disbonding test using standard tape.
Applications
Coating adhesion test, coating mass assessment, coating process control
Standards
ISO 2409/16276-2、ASTM D3359、AS 3894.9/1580.408.4、JIS K 5600-5-6
Steps
1. Select the appropriate cutting blade according to the film thickness of the coating to be tested and the standard (such as ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359). For example, for coatings of 51~ 125 μm and according to ASTM D3359, a 2mm/6 tooth blade should be selected.
2. Attach the selected blade to the swirling/spinning cutting head of the tester.
3. Use the tester to cut out the cross grid pattern on the coating surface.
4. Use the included brush to remove coating debris from cutting.
Depending on the standard selected, disbonding tests can be carried out using adhesive tape conforming to ISO 2409 or ASTM D3359.
6. Use the provided illumination magnifying glass (3x or 10x) to observe the flaking of the grid area coating.
7. Assess the adhesion grade of the coating against the grading chart of the corresponding standard.
Notice
* Please strictly select the correct blade specification according to the film thickness of the coating to be tested and the test standard based on it.
* For soft substrates (e.g. wood and plaster), blade selection may need to be adjusted within a specific coating thickness range (e.g. 2mm/6 tooth blades are recommended for 0 to 120μm).
Make sure the blade is sharp for a clear, even cutting line, and the blade has four cutting edges that can be replaced for extended use.
When operating, keep the cutting head perpendicular to the test surface and apply uniform pressure.
Please clean the tool properly after testing and store all accessories in the hard case provided.
