Principle

The Pendulum hardness tester is based on the interaction between the pendulum and the paint film, depending on the film resilience and viscoelasticity properties. The softer the pendulum touches the film surface, the faster its pendulum radiation attenuates. Hardness is assessed by the measurement of damping time. The Koenig pendulum and the Persaz pendulum share the same principle but differ in size, oscillation period and oscillation.
