Overview
SUOGUANG RHG-181 gemstone refractometer is a precision instrument for gemstone identification, which can measure the refractive index of gemstones nondestructive, fast and accurately. By measuring the refractive index, the type of gemstone can be preliminarily determined, and the key data for subsequent determination of gemstone species combined with Miscellaneous identification methods can be provided.

Principle
The gemstone refractometer works based on the principle of Optical inspection. When the ray of light from one medium (such as gemstones) into another medium (such as refractometer prism) will be refracted, by measuring the critical angle and using the internal calibration of the instrument refractive index scale, you can directly read the refractive index value of the gemstone to be tested.

Steps
1. Clean the gemstone sample and the refractometer prism.
2. Drop the contact liquid on the refractometer prism.
3. Place the polished surface of the gemstone smoothly in the center of the prism.
4. Through the eyepiece observation, adjust the Illuminant and focal length until you see a clear dividing line between light and dark.
5. Read the scale value corresponding to the dividing line, which is the refractive index of the gemstone.
Notice
* Be sure to clean gems and prisms before measurement to ensure dust and oil free.
Use appropriate contact fluids and avoid too much or too little contact fluids.
Gems must have a well-polished surface, otherwise accurate readings may not be possible.
* Measurement range is 1.30~ 1.81, Readability is 0.01, out of range or insufficient accuracy of gems can not be measured.
Clean the prism promptly after use and keep the instrument properly.
