Product Overview
The DR280A Coating Thickness Gauge is a portable, rechargeable, dual-purpose coating thickness gauge for iron and aluminum launched by the Dongru brand. Compliant with national standards GB/T 4956-2003 and GB 4957-2003, this instrument is professionally designed for non-destructive measurement of coating thickness on metal surfaces, featuring simple operation, portability, and clear display. It is equipped with high-quality imported metal probes, offering a precise structure and stable performance. Depending on the type of metallic substrate—whether magnetic (such as steel or iron) or non-magnetic (such as aluminum, copper, or stainless steel)—it employs either the magnetic method or the eddy current method for measurement.

Working Principle
The DR280A coating thickness gauge employs two measurement principles based on the type of metal substrate. For ferromagnetic metal substrates (such as steel and iron), it uses the magnetic induction method, which measures the change in magnetic flux between the probe and the magnetic substrate caused by the presence of a non-magnetic coating to determine the coating thickness non-destructively. For non-ferromagnetic metal substrates (such as aluminum, copper, and stainless steel), it uses the eddy current method, where the high-frequency electromagnetic field generated by the probe induces eddy currents in the substrate. The change in the eddy current effect due to the presence of a non-conductive coating is then measured to determine the coating thickness non-destructively.
Application Areas
Coating industry, manufacturing, metal processing industry, chemical industry, commodity inspection, and other testing fields.
Complies with standards
GB/T 4956-2003、GB 4957-2003
Operation Steps
1. Power on.
2. Depending on the base material being tested (ferrous or non-ferrous), the instrument typically automatically identifies it or allows manual selection of the corresponding mode.
3. Select an appropriate calibration method (zero, two-point, or multi-point) to calibrate the instrument.
4. Choose the measurement mode (single measurement or continuous measurement).
5. Place the probe vertically and steadily in contact with the surface of the coating being measured.
6. Read the measurement result displayed on the screen.
7. Upper and lower limit alarm values can be set in single measurement mode.
8. Measurement data can be automatically stored, and statistical functions can be used to view maximum, minimum, average values, etc.
9. After use, manually power off or wait for automatic shutdown.
Precautions
• Before measurement, properly calibrate the instrument according to the substrate material and measurement requirements.
• During measurement, the probe should be perpendicular to the measured surface and maintain stable contact.
• The measured surface should be kept clean, flat, and free of attachments.
• Measurements may be inaccurate for surfaces with excessive curvature or edge areas.
• The instrument should avoid severe vibration, high temperature, high humidity, and strong magnetic fields.
• Regularly check whether the probe is worn to ensure measurement accuracy.
• When not in use for an extended period, please power off and store it properly.
• When charging, use the matching or compliant Type-C charging cable.
• Bluetooth or USB data transmission functions are customized options; please refer to the relevant instructions for specific operations.
