This standard specifies the method for determining the resistance of unused and uncleaned leather to the effects of organic solvents and its ability to prevent color transfer to other materials. This method is not applicable for evaluating the dry-cleaning performance of leather garments. During the test, a leather sample and a standard adjacent fabric are placed in a container with a specific solvent, and mechanical action (such as agitation with a polytetrafluoroethylene rod) is applied to simulate the process. After treatment, the degree of color change in the leather and the degree of staining on the fabric are visually assessed using a grey scale (a standard color comparison tool), thereby determining the solvent fastness rating.
