This standard specifies a test method for determining the melt mass-flow rate (MFR) and melt volume-flow rate (MVR) of thermoplastic materials that are highly sensitive to time-temperature history and/or humidity in terms of their rheological properties. The method is a modified adoption of the international standard ISO 1133-2:2011. The implementation of this standard aims to accurately evaluate the flow characteristics of such sensitive materials during processing, which is crucial for material selection, process control, and quality assurance. Performing this test requires specialized testing instruments, commonly referred to as melt flow rate testers or melt indexers. The core components include a heating furnace for precise temperature control, a die with specified dimensions, a piston and weight system for applying load, and a device for cutting the extrudate and timing. For the determination of the melt volume-flow rate, the instrument must also be equipped with integrated displacement sensors to measure piston displacement for volume calculation.
