This standard specifies the method for determining the indentation hardness (Shore hardness) of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber using a Shore durometer. Based on different materials and hardness ranges, it defines four main hardness scales: Scale A is suitable for rubber within the common hardness range, Scale D is used for high-hardness materials, Scale AO applies to low-hardness rubber and sponge, while Scale AM is intended for measuring thin samples within the common hardness range. The core instrument for conducting this test is the corresponding Shore durometer (such as Shore Type A, D, AO, and AM durometers). This instrument features a simple structure and easy operation, making it suitable for both precise laboratory measurements and rapid inspections on production sites.
