This standard specifies the method for determining the indentation hardness (Shore hardness) of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber using a Shore durometer. Based on different materials and hardness ranges, it defines four main hardness scales: Scale A is suitable for rubber within the common hardness range, Scale D is used for high-hardness materials, Scale AO applies to low-hardness rubber and sponge, while Scale AM is intended for measuring thin samples within the common hardness range.
