GB/T 43316.4-2023
Plastics—Determination of resistance to environmental stress cracking (ESC)—Part 4: Ball or pin impression method

This standard is part of a series of test methods. It describes a test method for determining the environmental stress cracking resistance of plastics by using a ball or needle to indent the plastic surface to produce constant strain. The method is applicable to comparing the cracking resistance of plastic raw materials, products, or specimens in different chemical environments, and is particularly suitable for amorphous plastics. The standard specifies that the needle indentation method is more suitable for determining semi-crystalline plastics and specimens with smaller thicknesses, while the ball indentation method is more inclined to evaluate the performance of the corresponding raw materials or chemicals. Performing this test requires a specialized pressure testing machine or hardness tester with constant pressure loading capability, as well as standard steel balls or needles for applying pressure.
