GB/T 19089-2012
Rubber-or plastics-coated fabrics - Determination of abrasion resistance - Martindale method

This standard primarily specifies a method for determining the surface abrasion resistance of rubber- or plastic-coated fabrics using a specific plane reciprocating friction method. The method includes two independent test procedures, which evaluate the material's resistance to friction under dry and wet conditions, respectively. The core testing instrument is the Martindale abrasion tester, which simulates wear under actual usage conditions by subjecting the specimen to continuous, multidirectional friction against a standard abrasive material under a specified low pressure, following a complex Lissajous curve trajectory. This method is specifically applicable to evaluating the coated surface of coated fabrics. For testing the uncoated base fabric surface, reference should be made to other series of test standards for uncoated fabrics.
