Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic-Determination of abrasion resistance using a rotating cylindrical drum device

This standard specifies two core methods for determining the abrasion resistance of vulcanized rubber or thermoplastic rubber: Method A using non-rotating specimens and Method B using rotating specimens. The test is conducted on a specialized rotating drum abrasion tester, whose main working principle involves pressing a cylindrical rubber specimen against the surface of a rotating drum wrapped with abrasive cloth of a specified grit size (e.g., No. 60) under a standard vertical pressure of 10 N, and subjecting it to friction over a set distance (typically 40 meters). Ultimately, the volume loss of the specimen due to friction is measured, and the results are reported in the form of relative volume abrasion or abrasion index compared to a standard reference rubber, thereby enabling objective comparison and evaluation of the abrasion resistance of different rubber materials.
