GB/T 8942-2016 "Paper—Determination of Softness" specifies the method for determining the softness of paper using a hand-feel type softness tester. It is applicable to tissue paper, napkin paper, and other papers requiring softness evaluation, but not suitable for napkins, facial tissues that have been folded or embossed, or high-stiffness paper. Samples are collected according to GB/T 450, conditioned according to GB/T 10739, and cut into 100mm×100mm test pieces, with the machine direction and cross direction indicated. The instrument's slit width is set to four levels, including 5.0mm and 6.35mm, with a probe length of 225mm, an average travel speed of (1.2±0.24) mm/s, and a total travel distance of (12±0.5) mm. Testing is conducted according to the number of layers specified in the product standard, and the bending resistance is recorded to calculate softness, ensuring uniform and accurate determination.
