A vibrometer is an instrument used to measure the vibration parameters of an object. Vibration parameters typically include displacement, velocity, and acceleration, which can reflect the operating state of mechanical equipment. In industrial production and scientific research, vibrometers are widely used to monitor equipment health, diagnose faults, and evaluate structural dynamics.
Principle
The working principle of a vibrometer is based on a sensor that converts mechanical vibrations into electrical signals. Common sensor types include piezoelectric, electromagnetic, and capacitive. Take piezoelectric acceleration sensors as an example, their core is piezoelectric materials, which generate an electric charge when subjected to vibration, and the amount of charge is directly proportional to the acceleration. This signal is amplified and filtered, analyzed by the processing unit, and finally displays or outputs vibration parameters. where x represents displacement and t represents time. In actual measurements, the instrument can be converted between different parameters by integral or differential operations.
Measurement method
Vibration measurement methods are mainly divided into contact and non-contact types. Non-contact measurement uses technologies such as laser or eddy current to obtain vibration data without touching objects, often used for high-temperature or rotating components. The measurement process needs to consider the sensor mounting method, such as bolting or magnetic mounting, to ensure the reliability of signal transmission. After data acquisition, time- and frequency-domain analyses are often performed to identify vibration characteristics.
Influencing factors
The accuracy of the measurement results is influenced by several factors. The sensor sensitivity and frequency response range should match the measured vibration characteristics. Improper installation can introduce additional noise or signal attenuation. Environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and electromagnetic interference can also interfere with signal quality. In addition, the material and structure of the object under test may affect vibration transmission, which needs to be evaluated before measurement. The skill level of the operator is also a factor that cannot be ignored as the calibration status of the instrument.

When choosing a vibrometer, consider both the measurement needs and environmental conditions. First, define the type of parameter to be measured, such as acceleration, velocity, or displacement, and determine the desired range and frequency range. The sensor type should be selected based on the installation conditions, such as non-contact for hard-to-reach surfaces. The accuracy and resolution of the instrument must meet the requirements of international standards such as ISO 2954. In addition, data output methods and portability are also practical considerations. It is recommended to refer to industry specifications and conduct field testing to ensure instrument suitability.
