Forming Coating Film Rod

The film applicator rod forms a uniform wet film on the substrate surface by using a metal rod engraved with grooves of specific depths. It is used in laboratories to simulate the coating application process and test properties such as the leveling ability and hiding power of coatings. It is suitable for coating tests of liquid materials like inks and paints.
Selection
Select the groove shape based on the viscosity of the material to be tested: choose a circular groove for high viscosity and a wedge-shaped groove for low viscosity. Match the groove depth specification according to the expected film thickness. Determine the rod hardness based on the substrate flatness, using a flexible rod for curved substrates. Stainless steel material resists solvent corrosion, while carbon steel material is suitable for water-based systems.
