When gas passes through the detection chamber, the light emitted by the infrared light source is absorbed by the gas. The detector measures the degree of light intensity attenuation and calculates the gas concentration using the Beer-Lambert law. They are used to monitor combustible or toxic gases and are commonly employed in industrial safety and environmental monitoring applications.
