Paint Mirror Gloss Meter

The paint specular gloss meter measures the ratio of specular reflected light intensity from the painted surface to the reflectance of a standard plate by illuminating the surface with a light source at a fixed angle, directly displaying the gloss value. It is used to evaluate the gloss uniformity of surfaces such as paint and plastics, and to determine surface reflective characteristics in coating quality inspection and product appearance control.
Selection
When selecting, pay attention to matching the measurement angle to the gloss range of the sample: use 20° for high gloss, 60° for medium gloss, and 85° for low gloss. Verify that the instrument complies with ISO and ASTM standards. Check that the base size is suitable for curved surfaces. Confirm that the calibration plate has a traceability certificate. Compare the measurement stability and data repeatability across different brands.

Application of Gloss Meter in Gloss Measurement of Varnish Coatings
A gloss meter is used to measure the gloss of varnish coatings by detecting surface-reflected light to quantitatively assess the appearance of the coating. The measurement is based on the principle of specular reflection of light, commonly employing angles such as 20°, 60°, and 85° to correspond to different gloss ranges, and follows standard formulas for calculation.
Glossmeter 75-degree angle measurement for paper gloss
This article introduces the principle and method of measuring paper gloss using a 75-degree specular gloss meter. The use of a gloss meter in evaluating the surface gloss of printing paper and art paper.
Gloss meters quantify paper gloss by measuring surface reflected light, with 20°, 60°, and 85° angles commonly used for high, medium, and low gloss surfaces, respectively. The gloss characteristics of printing paper and art paper differ, so the appropriate measurement angle should be selected based on the estimated gloss level.
Determination of specular gloss: Selection criteria for instruments at different angles (20°/60°/85°)
Specular gloss is a measure of a material's ability to reflect light, calculated by comparing the reflected luminous flux of a sample with that of a standard plate. Three angles—20°, 60°, and 85°—are commonly used for measurement, corresponding to high-gloss, medium-gloss, and low-gloss surfaces, respectively.
