Coatings Thickness Gauge

A film thickness gauge measures coating thickness through contact or non-contact methods using probes, employing principles such as magnetic induction, eddy current, or ultrasonic waves. It is used to detect the thickness of paint or electroplating layers on metal substrates, or the thickness of plastic films on non-metal substrates. It is applied in quality control scenarios such as automotive painting, printed product lamination, and electronic component coatings.
Selection
Select the magnetic induction principle (for steel) or eddy current principle (for non-ferrous metals) based on the substrate type; choose a small probe for curved workpieces and a large probe for flat surfaces. Consider the coating range: select a model with a range of 0–3mm for conventional applications, and opt for a model with a resolution of 0.1μm for ultrathin layers. A waterproof design is required for humid environments, while benchtop models are suitable for laboratory use and handheld models for on-site applications.
