Zahn ZAHN viscosity Cup

The Zahn viscosity cup determines viscosity by measuring the time it takes for a liquid to completely flow out through a small hole at the bottom of the cup. After immersing the cup into the sample and lifting it, the time until the cup empties is recorded—the longer the time, the higher the viscosity. It is used for on-site rapid testing of coatings and inks, and approximate viscosity values can be obtained with the help of a conversion chart.
Selection
When selecting, consider the viscosity range of the sample, with cup numbers 1-5 covering low to high viscosities. Cups 2-3 are often used for water-based materials, while cups 4-5 are suitable for high-viscosity paints. Ensure the selection aligns with the product's process requirements, with the flow time ideally controlled between 20 and 80 seconds. The size of the cup nozzle affects measurement accuracy.
