Frame Gloss Meter

The frame gloss meter evaluates surface gloss by measuring the specular reflectance of an object's surface to a standard light source. A 60-degree angle light source is used to illuminate the sample, and a photodetector receives the intensity of the reflected light, converting it into gloss units. It is used to detect the surface gloss consistency of materials such as coatings, plastics, and paper, assisting in production quality control.
Selection
When selecting, consider matching the measurement angle to the sample's gloss range: use a 20-degree angle for high-gloss surfaces, 60 degrees for ordinary surfaces, and 85 degrees for low-gloss surfaces. Ensure the instrument complies with ASTM D523 and ISO 2813 standards. Check the calibration plate certification and the instrument's repeatability.
